Adapting to New Normal

Covid-19 has made an impact on everyone in the business industry; some are facing spikes in demand, whereas others have had to pivot their products and services exclusively to online sales. While the situation is different for every business based on their nature, the common thread is turning into an advanced data analysis methodologies to make critical decisions about marketing, inventory, cash flow and how best to serve their customers to adapt to this new normal of the post-COVID19 era.

The New Normal

The post-Covid environment in all the platforms including workplaces will need effective new measures on all their sections of businesses to ensure the best adaptability for their sustaining plan. However I here discuss two important sections that an entrepreneur or business owner must act immediately to ensure in place for the better business growth in the post-pandemic environment.

Physical Hygiene

Business owners or CEOs have sought to ensure their employees wellness and physical safety in the post-covid environment. There were almost 60% of the service based companies implemented work-from-home measures including both public and private education institutions and bankers. Also those who in the industries where the resuming offices is essential including government institutions have sanitised their work stations and installed highly effective hygienic measures and adapted to new normal conducts such as contactless delivery and cashless transactions, for example.

The key element here is the measures that have been installed for an emergency situations should be improved to a sustainable long-term practices to ensure the new operational investments were adequately made to make the business compatible into the new normal operatives. This helps the employees physical well-being in operations of all sectors.

In other words, there should be a system implemented with business intelligence influences uniquely to ensure the smooth business operations complying to the new post-pandemic regulations. Many hygienic regulations yet to be developed in each country where the businesses operate. This will also be an initiative to make the most of employee engagement to adapt into the new normal in the post-pandemic workplace. For an example receiving and responding inquiries during the emergency via social media channels and directing the delivery of service either via third-party platforms to be uniformed with more advanced process in the post-covid operations.  Well-sophisticated software that controls both internal and external business operation would be an ideal step to make the employees feel closer to their work.

This also should ensure the employee variation and climate on each country are considered while implementing post-covid business operations, hence the climate zones of the countries and social behaviours of employees of the mass industries require unique attention since the affected levels and social spread of the flu with differ in the definition of normality in each area, town, city and country. Social reaction of customers in the particular demography to be thoroughly assessed while generating sales and marketing leads via micro clusters to ensure the efficient results and sustainable operation of any business.

A communication on hygiene and physical and mental wellness of the employees must have engaging, frequent, clear, and effective ways, seeking out tactics with human emotions — using videos or voiceovers rather than just written methods, establishing working hours, instituting a regular canteen time or happy hour, and providing direct access to leaders and colleagues.

Mental Health of employees

Importantly, there are some companies have put mental health support options in place already for employees of all levels to ensure the mental well-being of each employee in the new normal era.  Work-from-home depression level has been increased by 20% of tech-employees during the lock-down than the pre-pandemic time. Despite the size of the company, it is important to ensure the early implementation of mental health measures, which is seemingly, will be included in the government regulations on the public domain in the near future.

Six pages of report issue by World Health Organisation (WHO) regarding the mental health care during the COIVID-19 outbreak, outlines the important measures to be taken by all sectors of public. The report can be accesssed here. The Mental Health Foundation UK has also publised several guidelines to work during the outbreak while managing the mental wellbeing balanced during the outbreak.
